Celebrating Polish Independence: A Cultural Collaboration between the Embassy of Poland and the University of the Cordilleras

On November 6, 2024, the Embassy of Poland, in partnership with the University of the Cordilleras (UC), represented by Dr. Peejay C. Natiola, Director of the Center for Creative Productions, commemorated the 106th Independence Day of the Republic of Poland. This prestigious event took place at the Grand Hyatt Manila in Bonifacio Global City, bringing together dignitaries and government officials from various countries. Their presence symbolized international solidarity and support for the achievements of the Republic of Poland.

A Festive Welcome by UC Percussion and Orchestra

The evening commenced with a vibrant performance by the UC Percussion and Orchestra Drumline Section, who welcomed attendees in the lobby of the ballroom. Under the expert guidance of former members Jasmine Pacia and David Escudero—both of whom are now employees of the university—the student-artists captivated the audience with their rhythmic prowess on percussion instruments. Their dynamic performance set a celebratory tone for the evening, enticing the guests with every beat and rhythm, creating an engaging and festive atmosphere.

Cultural Showcase by Saeng ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble

Following the percussion performance, the celebration continued with a captivating display of Cordilleran culture presented by the Saeng ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble. Dressed in traditional attire, the ensemble performed a 10-minute dance routine that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the six provinces of the Cordillera region. Each dance showcased the unique traditions of its respective province, including the banga dance of Kalinga, the sakuting of Mountain Province, the baliwes of Abra, the dinuyah of Ifugao, the talip of Apayao, and the bedian dance of Benguet. The performance was led by Daryl Ignas, an alumnus of the university and now one of the dance trainers, further emphasizing the connection between the university and the cultural heritage it seeks to promote.

The authenticity and vibrancy of the Cordilleran culture left the audience in awe, effectively showcasing the depth and diversity of the region’s artistic expressions.

The collaboration between the Embassy of Poland and the University of the Cordilleras aligns seamlessly with the institution’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
