The U.S. Embassy Holiday Thanksgiving Dinner was a two-year consecutive event that brought together guests in a celebration of culture and gratitude. During both years, the U.S. Embassy invited the UC Center for Creative Productions Chorale to perform, showcasing the talents of Filipino students. Under the direction of Mr. Walter Mang-usan, the chorale was selected to bring their musical expertise to the event. Their repertoire included a beautiful selection of Christmas songs and a stirring “song of victory” that resonated deeply with the audience. The performance was met with enthusiastic appreciation from the guests, including Baguio City Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong, who admired the chorale’s musicality.
The presence of the UC Chorale added a personal touch to the environment, allowing guests to experience first-hand the kind of artistic talent that is nurtured in the Philippines. The US Embassy’s recognition of UC’s musical talents further reinforced the importance of cultural diplomacy and the role that the arts can play in building bridges between nations.
The UC Center for Creative Productions is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11), which emphasizes the importance of creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities. As part of their mission, the center regularly offers open-to-the-public performances that highlight the diversity of the university’s students, and encourage community engagement with the world of music.
In conclusion, the Holiday Celebration hosted by the US Ambassador was much more than a gathering. It was an event with opportunities for partnership and collaboration, all while celebrating the talent, diversity, and cultural heritage of the Philippines. The UC Chorale’s performance not only demonstrated the impressive musical range of the students but also reinforced the university’s vision of empowering its students through the arts. Their performance embodied the essence of good leadership and exemplified the university’s proud spirit of “Tatak UC”—a commitment to excellence, community, and cultural expression.
