The 2026 Panagbenga Baguio Grand Floral Float Parade, held on March 1, marked the 30th anniversary of the Panagbenga Festival with the theme “Blooming Without End.” The highly anticipated event drew more than 147,000 spectators who gathered along the parade route, which commenced at Upper Session Road, passed through Lower Session Road and Harrison Road, and concluded at the Melvin Jones Football Grounds. Lavish floats adorned with vibrant flowers filled the streets, symbolizing Baguio City’s enduring resilience since 1995 while highlighting the creative, cultural, and environmental spirit of this milestone celebration.
Among the standout participants was the University of the Cordilleras Center for Creative Productions, which made a strong and memorable impression throughout the parade. The Saeng ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble proudly showcased the traditional attires of the six provinces of the Cordillera, offering spectators a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage and cultural diversity. Their presence emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous identity while celebrating its beauty on a public stage.
Complementing the Saeng ya Kasay Cultural were the University’s Dance Company, Dance Squad, and the Percussion and Orchestra, all of which delivered dynamic and engaging performances. They presented a variety of Philippine folk dances, each brought to life through synchronized movements, rhythmic music, and colorful, intricately designed costumes. Together, their performances reflected the diversity of Filipino culture and contributed to the festive atmosphere, energizing the crowd along the parade route.
Beyond entertainment, the University’s participation in the Grand Float Parade reflects a deeper commitment to meaningful engagement and development. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing students with valuable experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom. It also supports SDG 11.4, which emphasizes the protection and safeguarding of cultural and natural heritage. Through active involvement in cultural events, students are able to enhance their skills, broaden their perspectives, and develop a stronger sense of social responsibility.
Furthermore, the initiative supports the Center for Creative Productions’ Key Result Area (KRA) 1, Goal 2, which promotes active participation in events that celebrate the Philippines’ cultural heritage. By engaging in the Panagbenga Festival, students deepen their appreciation for Cordilleran traditions and strengthen their connection to the community. Such experiences not only foster cultural pride but also contribute to the ongoing preservation and promotion of the unique identity and values of the Cordillera region.
