The 2nd Light of the North Choral Festival and Competition was successfully conducted by the Saint Louis University – Center for Culture and the Arts (SLU-CCA) on November 30, 2025. The event gathered choirs in a lively celebration marked by harmony, artistic distinction, and a shared devotion to choral music.
The festival took place at the Fr. Joseph Van den Daelen, CICM, CCA Theater at Saint Louis University in Baguio City and featured fifteen competing choirs from various regions of the Philippines. Organized by the SLU Center for Culture and the Arts, the event reaffirmed the University’s commitment to developing choral excellence and fostering meaningful cultural exchange.
Grand Champion honors were awarded to the Baguio Central University Chamber Choir, led by Mr. Jomard L. Calamba. Adamson University Chorale, under the direction of Mr. John Rufiel G. Aniceto, emerged as First Runner-up, while Tarlac Männerchor, conducted by Mr. Darwin B. Vargas, secured the Second Runner-up position.
As the festival’s second edition came to an end, it served as a testament to the vision, dedication, and tireless efforts that brought this remarkable undertaking to life. Heartfelt gratitude was extended to all participating choirs, partners, and supporters whose enthusiasm and commitment transformed the event into a truly memorable musical experience.
Each performance conveyed a unique story, with individual voices skillfully woven into a powerful and unified sound. Through every phrase and progression, choirs found reflections of themselves, shaping a collective narrative expressed through resonance, emotion, and musical unity rather than words.
Additionally, this initiative advances the Center for Creative Productions’ Key Result Area 5, Goal 10, which emphasizes sustained participation in both national and international cultural competitions. The UC Center for Creative Productions also supports SDG 11 by promoting inclusive, sustainable communities through public performances that showcase student diversity and foster community engagement with music. Through such engagement, the University continues to promote cross-cultural understanding, expand artistic perspectives, and strengthen its global visibility and institutional identity.
