As Academic Year 2026–2027 begins, the University of the Cordilleras Center for Creative Productions (UC-CCP) introduces a series of new programs and support initiatives designed to promote the holistic development of its student artists while strengthening its connection with the broader UC community.
Recognizing that artistic excellence extends beyond performance, UC-CCP continues to expand its role in supporting the physical health, mental well-being, personal growth, and creative potential of its members. These initiatives reflect the Center’s commitment to cultivating not only talented performers but also healthy, resilient, and well-rounded individuals who can thrive academically, artistically, and socially.
Prioritizing the Health and Well-Being of Student Artists
For the first time, UC-CCP has introduced mental health assessments and physical check-ups for its members as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen student support and promote a culture of wellness within its performing groups.
The mental health assessment aims to help identify members who may benefit from additional guidance, support, or appropriate referrals. Recognizing the demands of balancing academic responsibilities with intensive rehearsals, training, and performances, the initiative underscores the importance of mental well-being in sustaining student engagement and artistic development.
Complementing this initiative, physical check-ups have been introduced to help monitor members’ health and fitness in preparation for the physical demands of their respective performing activities. These assessments support early identification of potential health concerns and help inform appropriate measures to promote safe participation in rehearsals, training, and performances.
UC-CCP has also worked with the university administration to facilitate an insurance package for its members, providing an additional layer of protection and financial support in the event of unforeseen incidents, subject to the terms and coverage of the policy.
Together, these initiatives reflect CCP’s belief that a healthy mind and body are essential foundations for meaningful learning, productive participation, and quality performance. By strengthening preventive care and support systems, the Center seeks to create an environment where student artists can pursue excellence while prioritizing their overall well-being.
Bringing Wellness to the UC Community Through the Arts
Beyond supporting its members, UC-CCP has institutionalized a series of monthly wellness activities that invite students, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and other members of the university community to participate in accessible and engaging artistic experiences.
Through movement, music, cultural appreciation, and singing, these programs provide opportunities for relaxation, social connection, and personal enrichment amid the demands of everyday academic and professional life.
The wellness calendar features four signature programs:
Fitness Friday — Every First Friday of the Month
Led by the UC Dance Company and UC Cheer Jags, Fitness Friday offers a lively Zumba workout that encourages participants to stay active, embrace movement, and make physical wellness part of their regular routine.
Rhythms for Well-Being — Every Second Thursday of the Month
In this music-centered initiative, the UC Percussion and Orchestra opens opportunities for community members interested in learning musical instruments. Through guided musical engagement, participants can explore their musical interests, develop new skills, and experience the value of music as a source of enjoyment and personal expression.
Kanyaw: A Series for Wellness through the Arts — Every Third Saturday of the Month
Featuring Saeng Ya Kasay, the university’s cultural performing group, Kayaw brings the dances and music of the Cordilleras closer to the UC community. The initiative creates opportunities for cultural appreciation while recognizing the importance of sustaining Indigenous artistic traditions and sharing cultural knowledge with wider audiences.
Singing Connects — Every Last Saturday of the Month
Led by the UC Chorale and Featured Artists, Singing Connects invites members of the community to discover or strengthen their interest in singing. Through shared musical experiences, the program encourages self-expression, builds social connections, and celebrates the unifying power of music.
Through these initiatives, UC-CCP transforms its performing groups into active partners in community wellness. Each program provides a dedicated opportunity for student artists to share their talents and give back to the university community, reinforcing the idea that the performing arts can serve not only as a platform for excellence but also as a meaningful avenue for connection, participation, and well-being.
Unleashing Creative Potential Through CCP Lab and Spotlight
Expanding its commitment to artistic development, UC-CCP also launches CCP Lab and Spotlight, an initiative designed to encourage experimentation, independent creative work, and digital engagement among its members.
Under this program, CCP members may propose creative projects that undergo a month-long incubation period before being presented through the official CCP Facebook page. The initiative gives student artists an opportunity to develop their own concepts, explore their artistic interests, and transform their ideas into original creative outputs.
CCP Lab serves as a space for experimentation and development, allowing members to explore new approaches, refine their skills, and take greater ownership of their creative processes. Spotlight, meanwhile, provides a platform for presenting selected outputs to a wider audience through digital media.
In an increasingly digital landscape, the initiative recognizes the potential of online platforms to expand the reach of performing arts and creative content. By encouraging innovation, collaboration, and digital storytelling, UC-CCP aims to help its members develop the skills and confidence to share their work beyond traditional performance venues.
More than a showcase of talent, CCP Lab and Spotlight promotes a culture of creative initiative in which student artists are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and discover new possibilities for their artistic growth.
Advancing Holistic Development Through the Sustainable Development Goals
The new initiatives of UC-CCP contribute to the broader aspirations of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting health and well-being, inclusive learning, and innovation.
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being is reflected in the introduction of mental health assessments, physical check-ups, insurance support, and community wellness activities. These initiatives reinforce the importance of preventive care, physical activity, mental well-being, and supportive environments for student artists and the wider university community.
SDG 4: Quality Education is supported through opportunities for experiential learning, artistic development, and lifelong learning. Whether through music instruction, cultural engagement, physical activities, or independent creative projects, the programs extend learning beyond the classroom and encourage the development of skills, creativity, and cultural awareness.
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities is relevant to the wellness programs’ aim of opening selected arts-based activities to members of the university community beyond CCP’s performing groups. By creating opportunities for broader participation, the Center helps make artistic and wellness experiences more accessible within the university.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure connects with CCP Lab and Spotlight, which encourages creative experimentation and the use of digital platforms to develop and present original artistic outputs. The initiative supports innovation by giving student artists opportunities to explore new forms of creative expression and engage with evolving digital environments.
These connections reflect the potential of the performing arts to contribute to a broader educational mission—one that recognizes health, creativity, cultural understanding, and community engagement as important dimensions of student development.
Cultivating Artists, Building Community, Inspiring Possibilities
Through these new initiatives, the University of the Cordilleras Center for Creative Productions continues to broaden its role in the university. Beyond preparing students for performances and competitions, CCP is strengthening its commitment to their well-being, encouraging the creative exploration of its members, and making the performing arts more accessible to the UC community.
By investing in the health of its student artists, sharing its talents through wellness activities, and opening new avenues for creative experimentation, UC-CCP reaffirms its belief that the true value of the performing arts lies not only in what happens onstage but also in the lives they enrich and the communities they bring together.
As Academic Year 2026–2027 unfolds, the Center moves forward with a renewed commitment to holistic development, artistic excellence, and meaningful service—cultivating individuals who are not only performers but also creative thinkers, responsible community members, and advocates of the arts.
