An Enchanting Baguio Christmas 2024

On December 14, 2024, the University of the Cordilleras Center for Creative Productions illuminated the stage as part of the Enchanting Baguio Christmas celebration, presenting the yes UCan Concert – SAYTURA (Sayaw at Kultura ng Pilipinas) and Paskuhan sa UC (A DecemBERDE to Remember) at the Rose Garden in Burnham Park.

Enchanting Baguio Christmas

The Enchanting Baguio Christmas is an annual celebration that enhances the festive spirit for both locals and tourists. The event features a variety of activities, including a Christmas Market showcasing yuletide flavors and novelties, fun-filled activities for families and children, and festive performances. Highlights of the celebration also include the Lighting of the Baguio Christmas Tree at Upper Session Road, followed by the Lantern Parade, as well as Christmas shows presented by academic institutions and performing arts groups throughout the city.

The Dance Company and Dance Squad showcased an array of folk dances from the Philippines, representing the diverse cultures of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Their performance included dances from the Maria Clara Suites, such as “Cariñosa,” “La Simpatika,” and “Bulaklak sa Halamanan,” which embody the finest qualities of a Filipina. They also presented Rural Folk Dances that capture the festive spirit and express joy in work, love for music, and appreciation for the simplicities of life, featuring dances like “Karatong,” “Maglalatik,” “Binasuan,” “Pasigin,” “Tinikling,” and “Sayaw sa Bangko.” The performance concluded with dances from the Muslim Suite, characterized by vivid colors and rhythmic movements that reflect the influence of Arabian and Indo-Malayan cultures, including “Kapa Malong Malong,” “Pag-apir,” and “Singkil.”

The Saeng ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble also took the stage, presenting dances from the six provinces of the Cordillera Region. From Ifugao, they performed “Pagad’dut”; from Benguet, “Tayaw” and “Bendian”; from Apayao, “Tad’do”; from Kalinga, “Kalasag” and “Banga”; from the Mountain Province, “Inan-anninit” and “Turayan”; and from Abra, a dance called “Palo’ok.” These performances beautifully illustrated the rich culture and traditions of the region. A DecemBERDE to Remember

The UC Center for Creative Productions expanded the festive spirit during the parol lighting on December 2, 2024. Various groups presented songs and dances that infused the audience with Christmas cheer. A highlight of the concert was the joyful distribution of chocolate bags to young attendees, made even more magical by the presence of the university’s official mascot, Benjie, who led the distribution and spread holiday cheer among the children.

Alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The University of the Cordilleras’ participation in the Enchanting Baguio Christmas 2024 goes beyond mere performance; it aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
