On June 26, 2026, the University of the Cordilleras (UC) commemorated its 80th Founding Anniversary at the UC Theater, bringing together members of the Salvosa family, the Board of Trustees, the Executive Council, representatives from the university’s academic and administrative offices, the Integrated School, student representatives, and alumni in a celebration of its enduring legacy and continuing pursuit of excellence.
The milestone celebration paid tribute to the university’s founders, Atty. Benjamin R. Salvosa and Evangelina D. Salvosa, whose vision, dedication, and commitment laid the foundation for what would become one of Baguio City’s leading academic institutions. From its beginnings as Baguio Colleges, the institution continued to grow through the collective efforts of its leaders, faculty, employees, students, and stakeholders, eventually becoming the Baguio Colleges Foundation and, in 2003, the University of the Cordilleras.
Eight decades later, UC stands as a testament to the enduring power of education to transform individuals, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for future generations. Its journey reflects a continuing commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and meaningful service to society.
Charting the Next Five Years of Learning and Innovation
A key highlight of the celebration was the welcome address of UC President Nancy M. Flores, who presented the university’s direction for the next five years. Her message emphasized the importance of expanding educational opportunities through both conventional and non-conventional pathways of learning.
Through conventional education, UC will continue to strengthen its academic programs by advancing learning environments, enhancing teaching pedagogies, and providing students with meaningful and relevant educational experiences. Complementing these efforts is the development of flexible and lifelong learning pathways that explore online, distance, and other alternative modes of education.
These initiatives reflect UC’s commitment to making quality education more accessible, extending learning opportunities beyond the physical boundaries of its Baguio City campus. By embracing diverse learning modalities, the university seeks to serve a broader community of learners and respond to the evolving needs of an increasingly interconnected world.
This direction reinforces United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), which calls for inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all. By exploring flexible learning pathways and strengthening its educational delivery, UC contributes to the broader goal of making learning more accessible to individuals across different locations and circumstances.
The university’s emphasis on innovation and educational transformation also resonates with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through its commitment to exploring alternative learning modalities and advancing educational approaches. Moreover, expanding access to learning opportunities beyond the traditional campus setting supports the aspirations of SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by helping address barriers that may limit participation in higher education.
As UC looks toward the future, its commitment remains clear: to uphold its foundations while continuously exploring innovative ways to educate, empower, and inspire.
Honoring the Legacy, Celebrating the Milestone
The anniversary celebration was spearheaded by the Center for Creative Productions (CCP), in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Office, ensuring a meaningful and memorable occasion for the university community and its stakeholders.
Another significant highlight was the unveiling of UC’s symbolic 80th anniversary logo, embodying the institution’s eight decades of shaping lives and inspiring the future.
At the heart of the design is a torch, representing learning and the pursuit of knowledge. Its flame symbolizes the light of knowledge illuminating the world through learning, hope, and service. The color green reflects UC’s commitment to excellence and the enduring values that continue to define its identity.
Together, these elements capture the university’s journey from 1946 to 2026—a legacy of transforming individuals, building futures, and sustaining a vision of education that responds to the needs of every generation.
Beyond commemorating its history, the anniversary serves as an opportunity to reaffirm the university’s role in advancing sustainable development through education, institutional innovation, and community engagement. By investing in people, embracing new approaches to learning, and strengthening partnerships among its stakeholders, UC continues to contribute to a future where education serves as a foundation for inclusive growth and social progress.
A Wall of Milestones, A Legacy of Excellence

The celebration culminated in the official opening of the UC Milestone of Excellence Wall at Gate 3, a commemorative installation honoring the university’s notable achievements and the individuals who have contributed to its growth and success.
The wall stands as a tribute to the people, milestones, and accomplishments that have shaped UC throughout its history. More than a display of achievements, it serves as a reminder that the university’s legacy is built through the collective dedication of generations of educators, leaders, employees, students, alumni, and partners.
This collective spirit reflects SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which recognizes the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable development. The university’s progress over eight decades demonstrates how shared vision, institutional leadership, and stakeholder participation can help sustain an organization’s mission and extend its contributions to society.
As the University of the Cordilleras marks its 80th year, it celebrates not only the distance it has traveled but also the possibilities that lie ahead. Eight decades of continuity, progress, and purpose have strengthened a community united by a shared commitment to teach, to research, and to give back.
This is the University of the Cordilleras. Eighty years of excellence. From vision to legacy, inspiring innovation, leading transformation, and sustaining the future.
