Safety Takes the Stage: UC CCP Equips Student-Artists with Life-Saving Skills

The University of the Cordilleras Center for Creative Productions (UC-CCP), in partnership with the UC Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), launched its first Basic Life Support and First Aid Crash Course for the university’s performing groups. Conducted from September 18 to October 8, 2026, at Room G402, the initiative aimed to equip student-artists with essential life-saving skills and strengthen emergency preparedness during rehearsals, training sessions, and performances. The program covered seven performing groups across six batches, with the UC-OSH providing safety expertise and guidance.

Recognizing the physical demands and unexpected risks of performing arts, CCP introduced the training to promote a safer environment for its student-artists. The sessions began with the CCP Featured Artists and reached the Dance Company, Dance Squad, Saeng ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble, Percussion and Orchestra, Rondalla, and Chorale, so that every group received essential first aid and basic life support training. By equipping student-artists with practical life-saving knowledge, the initiative emphasized preparedness, teamwork, and responsibility for one another’s well-being.

The initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, particularly Target 3.d, by strengthening emergency preparedness and awareness of health risks. It also advances SDG 4: Quality Education, especially Target 4.a, by promoting safer learning and rehearsal environments. Furthermore, it aligns with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, particularly Target 8.8, by encouraging safety awareness relevant to future careers in the performing arts. Finally, it contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, particularly Target 17.17, through the collaboration between CCP and the UC OSH in sharing expertise and promoting student welfare.

The training also advances the Center’s Key Result Areas and Goals. Under KRA 1, Innovation-driven, industry-responsive, and learner-centered education, it supports Goal 1 (KRA G1), which calls for training programs that help members acquire relevant skills while fostering personal growth and professional development. Under KRA 3, Sustainability and social responsibility that foster impactful change, it supports Goal 5 (KRA G5), which seeks the active participation of staff and students in initiatives that reflect UC’s culture, strengthen community identity, and promote sustainable social impact.

The Center for Creative Productions commits to striving for better, not only in artistic excellence but also in protecting the safety and well-being of its student-artists. Through initiatives like the Basic Life Support and First Aid Crash Course, CCP aims to ensure that every rehearsal and performance is supported by responsible, safety-conscious artists.
